The Bardoux family have been growers in the hamlet of Villedommage since 1684. In 1929, the family established their own marque. Since 1973, the house has been led by Pascal Bardoux, who has recently been joined by his son, Adrien. Their four-hectare site is about half Meunier and one-quarter each Pinot noir and Chardonnay. The wines are aged in their chalk cellars prior to disgorgement.
We pulled the cork on their nonvintage Brut for our twentieth wedding anniversary. It’s a blend of 60 percent Meunier, 30 percent Chardonnay, and 10 percent Pinot noir, mostly from the 2012 vintage. Pale gold, it’s redolent of hazelnut, lemongrass, and bread. Its fine, creamy mousse offers deeper notes of marzipan and sherry.
Overall it’s a light hearted wine, seamless, with no sharp edges.

Always like hearing about a Meunier based Champagne!
Cheers, David!
