Lionel Faury’s white Saint Joseph is 60 percent Marsanne and 40 percent Roussanne, aged in a mix of tank and barrel. It’s a clear yellow gold with a fragrance of autumn: yellow apple, quince, sage, dried leaves. The flavors are likewise suggestive of ripe pome fruits, but an astringent mid-palate and sense of oak add weight and texture. A great wine for autumnal fare; think roasted game birds, nutty stuffed squashes, creamy gratins, pasta tossed with crisped sage, or a mixed cheese course studded with nuts and dried fruits.
