Troon’s Vermentino, grown in their estate Kubli Bench Vineyard, is farmed organically, biodynamically, and following regenerative agriculture practices. After pressing, the fruit ferments with ambient yeasts in neutral French oak barrels. The wine ages on lees for five months and is bottled unfined and unfiltered with a modest sulfite addition.
The robe is gold with a greenish cast and very faintly cloudy. The wine is profusely aromatic, suggesting lime peel, honeysuckle, and yellow apple with hints of fresh cut grass. On the palate it’s textural, more weighty than I expected, but this is a warm site and Oregon’s latitude makes for long summer days. But it’s not fat; the wine is ample and coating, but a juicy sense of lemon drop brings refreshing acidity, and the finish is scintillant. I love that it’s ripe and ample at modest alcohol.
