2019 Hound’s Tree Estate Rosé North Fork

Snappy rosé from Long Island

2019 Hound's Tree Estate Rosé North Fork

The Hound’s Tree estate rosé is made from fruit grown in the winery’s North Fork vineyards. The cuvée is 60 percent Merlot with the balance split between Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit was hand-harvested in early October, then direct-pressed together and co-fermented in stainless steel with ambient yeast.

The wine is a medium salmon color with an effusive fragrance of white peach, cantaloupe, strawberry, and herbs. A stratum of wet stone keeps it grounded. The flavors continues the theme, delivering a concentrated pop of strawberry-peach fruit and crackly refreshment. Its low alcohol makes it eminently drinkable.

Pair it with fresh and young cheeses, especially of goat’s milk, or raw and lightly prepared fish and shellfish. Also try it with salads dressed with fruity olive oil, or lightly-spiced pilafs and curries.
