2016 Frank Family Vineyards Traditional Method Rouge Carneros

2016 Frank Family Vineyards Traditional Method Rouge Carneros

Frank Family’s fizzy red is 73 percent Pinot noir and 27 percent Chardonnay. The fruit is sourced from the Lewis Vineyard near San Pablo Bay, where the vines are washed by the sea’s cooling breezes. The wine spent three years on lees; this bottle was disgorged in April 2020.

The robe is saturated ruby red with a minuscule pearly bead. The aromatics are quiet, mostly fresh air and strawberries with a bit of bread. The palate delivers a pop of cherry and strawberry fruit, and as it finishes it suggests candied watermelon.

Curious and fun, it would make a charming picnic wine.
