2014 Tasca Conti d’Almarita Tascante Buonora Sicilia

Charming and versatile Carricante from Etna

2014 Tasca Conti d'Almarita Tascante Buonora Sicilia

This Sicilian Carricante was grown on the northern slopes of Mount Etna. It offers all the charms of this native grape: ripe white orchard fruits, a slight brininess, firm minerality, resinous herbs, and a languid finish. The mid-body has soft acidity, but the finish gets a crackly kick from salt.

It serves as a good counterpoint to rich Mediterranean seafood; try shrimp, swordfish, seared tuna, or amberjack. Also excellent with vegetable-centric Sicilian cuisine, like Pasta alla Norma, eggplant parmesan, and caponata—the acid will be balancing, and the fruit and freshness will be cleansing. Or serve it with a simpler pasta tossed with light meat plus something wise like parmesan, olives, or anchovies.
