2014 Pfendler Vineyards Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County

“Floral and friendly, with rose petals, spices, and cooling mint.”

2014 Pfendler Vineyards Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County
The Pfendler holdings lie along a cold and windy sector of Petaluma Gap, and all sites are dedicated to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. While the lowest elevation vineyards are still shrouded in morning fog, the highest vineyard—ranging to 2,200 feet—pokes its head into warming sunshine.

The sites conspire to produce an estate Pinot Noir that’s floral and friendly. Here, raspberry fruit is accented by rose petals, nutty spices, and cooling mint, with a resinous tinge that shifts it almost to rosemary. The tannins are supple, but the wine’s acidity offers a short kick on its way out, enlivening the ripe berry body. Pair this Pinot with light and rare meats, medium-aged cheeses, charcuterie—any food that craves refreshment.
