Maker Nominated for Best Writing, Best Post (Times Two) in 2016 Wine Blog Awards

Maker’s Table is shortlisted for Best Writing while two features are nominated for Best Post.

I’m pleased to announce that Maker’s Table has again been shortlisted in the categories of Best Writing and Best Blog Post of the Year in the Wine Blog Awards.

Now in their tenth year, the awards highlight the best self-published writing about wine online. Judges selected finalist work demonstrating a command of the field, originality, insight, and entertainment, then put that slate to a public vote, open through June 13, 2016.

In 2015, Maker’s Table won for Best Writing and was also tapped as a finalist for Best Post (I was also previously a finalist in 2012 and 2013).

This year is a little different, because I’m competing against myself. The judges included two of my articles among the five Best Post finalists: an essay, A Wine for Old Love, plus a review feature, Every Little Thing is Small: An Interview with Cathy Corison.

Maker’s Table as a whole was also tapped again for Best Writing, a tremendous honor considering the richness of the field. My nominated peers are passionate, talented, and knowledgeable, and their writing springs from a desire to tell true stories about wine. It’s a privilege to find myself among them.

I love writing about wine, too, because good wine writing is more than writing about wine. Wine is about hail and fog, sun and wind, stuck fermentations and spontaneous malolactic, but it’s also about generations and tradition, territory and animus, fresh ideas, innovation, and new blood. Wine can be a lens of culture, a view into the seasonal conversation between people and nature. My job as a writer is to listen to that conversation, then tell a story anyone might want to read.

If you like my writing and would like to support my nominations, please consider voting for me for Best Writing and selecting one of my two features for Best Post. Every vote counts, and will be weighed equally alongside the judges’ assessments: Vote here.

Thank you for reading, and for your enduring support.
