2016 Fields Family Wines Vermentino Delu Vineyard Alta Mesa Lodi

Briny, with racy acidity

2016 Fields Family Wines Vermentino Delu Vineyard Alta Mesa

A varietal Vermentino grown in the Delu Vineyard in Lodi’s Alta Mesa sub-appellation. The fruit was fermented with ambient yeast in stainless steel and the wine aged briefly in neutral French oak. Malolactic fermentation was suppressed.

It smells like the sea and lemons and tarragon; it tastes like seashells, salt, and citrus. Extremely light-textured, it’s threaded with bright acidity and crackles with brine and minerals, but the finish is silken lemon-lime.

It demands food. Pair it with oysters, sashimi, or seafood crudo, or with poached light-fleshed fish or shellfish dressed with lemon, capers, and olives. Try it with mixed salads drizzled with fruity olive oil and tossed with avocado, asparagus, or artichoke hearts; the wine will act like a dose of citrus. Also good with young and fresh cheeses, especially chèvre.

    My thoughts exactly! 😉
For me this screams seaside alfresco dining, shellfish and hanging out with the one you love. Cheers
