NV Marie-Pierre Manciat Crémant de Bourgogne Brut

Solid value in a Crémant de Bourgogne

NV Marie-Pierre Manciat Crémant de Bourgogne Brut

Marie-Pierre Maciat’s family has been making wine in Chaintré, Burgundy, since 1871; she is the sixth generation there to practice the craft. Her Crémant is 100 percent Chardonnay grown on 22 hectares of clay and limestone. It is fermented with native cultures, and malolactic took place in stainless steel prior to bottling and tirage.

The robe is a fey rose gold color, surprisingly pinkish-hued (the photo doesn’t do it justice). The bubbles are coarse at first but quickly subside into small skeins popping with aromas of hazelnuts, pastry, brioche, candied lemon peel, and orange blossom. The palate is both fruity and toasty, offering flavors of chestnut honey, marmalade, and marzipan on a wash of lime-y acidity. The finish is long and creamy.

A superlative value in a traditional method blanc de blancs from great dirt. Pair it with creamy cheeses, crispy snacks, and charcuterie.
