2013 Domaine Sainte-Anne Picpoul de Pinet Coteaux du Languedoc

I think of Picpoul as a fresh wine, best right after the vintage, but this bottle shows it can fatten up with a couple of years of bottle age.

This one has acquired a cool steely, oily, wet street quality, with a lift of lemon oil and stone fruit, banana, and sweet pineapple. The texture is almost unctuous, but it’s enlivened by herbs and salt and citrus. The overall effect is fruity and lush but fresh and cooling, too, like green tea with a swirl of honey and lemon, served cold in a stainless steel cup. Terrific acidity offers a juicy pop at the finish.

An oyster wine. Ten dollars!
