2017 The Hilt Estate Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills

Richly embroidered Pinot noir

2017 The Hilt Estate Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills

The Hilt’s 3,600-acre estate is home to 100 acres each of Pinot noir and Chardonnay (find my review of the 2017 Chardonnay here).

This 2017 Pinot, raised in a mix of new and neutral French oak, is a youthful purple-fuchsia color. The body is suffused with red-floral aromas tinged with herbs: I get cherry and rhubarb and tomato, mint and sage and grass. The palate is crystalline and richly embroidered, the flavors and sensations in marbled filigree. It sounds like a lot going on, but it feels seamless and integrated. I’m certain it can continue to evolve for five years or more.
