A varietal Sauvignon Blanc, about three-quarters deriving from Marlborough’s Wairau Valley, known for Sauvignon Blanc characterized by that curious tasting note, “gooseberry,” which few wine reviewers and perhaps even fewer readers have ever tasted. The balance of the fruit is from Awatere Valley, whose Sauvignon Blanc is more grassy. Lots were vinified separately, and the finished wine has high total acidity (7.4 g/L), off-set by modest residual sugar (5 g/L).
The color is pale and clear. The fragrance is musky like night flowers, but this sleepy funk is shocked awake by a blade of sharp green fruit and grated green citrus. The body is a gush of zesty acidity, effusive with kiwi, passion fruit, and lime juice tang. Grass and spring herbs riffle in the finish. This is an exuberant style with lavish everything. Pair it with bright sunlight.
