2013 Alois Lageder Haberle Pinot Bianco Alto Adige DOC

A Pinot Bianco grown at about 500 meters of elevation in stony, sandy soils coursed with a streak of limestone. Diurnal temperature variation is significant, engendering long, slow ripening.

The wine’s body is pale yellow and fresh-fruit scented despite the two years of bottle age, but its sappy, succulent mid-palate suggests ripe yellow apple and dried apricots, and it leaves behind a honeyed, slightly oxidative kiss, making me wonder what would happen with further cellaring (it could be good). Meanwhile, don’t serve it too cold. Best now with charcuterie, nuts and cheeses, roasted poultry, crispy fish.
