Sutro’s Sauvignon blanc is grown in the gravelly loam of the Warnecke Ranch estate vineyard. The fruit is all Clone 01, whose original plant material was sourced from Château d’Yquem in the 1880s and, during the 20th century, developed into this widely-planted clone.
The grapes were fermented half in stainless steel barrels and half in neutral oak, and the wine aged sur lie; malolactic was suppressed. Its pale moonlight-green robe offers aromas of lime peel and white peaches, while the flavor profile skews toward citrus and faint musk. The texture is generous and big-hearted, characteristic of this grape.
It’s a good partner for young cheeses (especially of goat’s milk), fish, salads, and lighter meats and poultry dressed with tangy sauces.
