Tablas Creek’s flagship white blend leans on Roussanne (46 percent), with healthy doses of Grenache blanc (28 percent) and Picpoul (14 percent), and smaller quantities of Bourboulenc, Clairette, and Picardin. It’s a lush gold color and perfumed of quince, baked apple, acacia honey, and tarragon. The palate is ample, gilded, with golden stone and pome fruits, honey, and beeswax. But there is good freshness, especially in the midsection. It’s like the first bite of a fresh apricot, which waves away the waxy richness in a flourish. This is a modern, stylish Rhône-ish white blend, ample and pleasing but worthy of contemplation.
