Ramey’s Sonoma Coast Syrah is a meaty, concentrated wine, lifted, like its northern Rhône antecedents, by a soupçon of Viognier. Its ruby robe is wreathed in aromas of cured meat, tobacco, coffee, and anise, while the juicy palate is ripe with stone fruits: red, black, and yellow. At the finish there is blackness, like black coffee, mingling with sweet apricot.
I think the wine will further integrate with time, the bright and dark elements shimmering together into a seamless whole. Pair it now with hearty cured, braised, or roasted meats and game, or aged cheeses.
