2013 Dierberg Pinot Noir Drum Canyon Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills

Limpid garnet red with a clear rim. The aromas promise cranberries, juniper berries, a wash of wild roses and eucalyptus, a sprinkle of baking spice. The sentiment is fresh, not dark, and the body is gamine, the acid a lean frame for red fruits—pomegranate, cranberry, raspberry. Tannins are very modest; this wine is mostly about acidity and fruit and its faint filigree from barrel aging.

Modern and stylish but light-hearted, too.
