2013 Patz & Hall Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard Carneros, Napa Valley

An undiluted, crystalline, yet thoroughly American Chardonnay with little in the way. The fragrance is an herb garden in sunlight, with warm lemon peel, pineapple, and mango. The body is light-textured and succulent, with exotic tropical fruits and a flare of tart yellow apple at the finish. Fruit (old Wente clone) was whole-cluster pressed and fermented with ambient yeast. The wine was treated to 45 percent new French oak. Ripe but nimble, and a great New World food-wine Chardonnay.
