Halter Ranch “Ranch Cab,” Paso Robles

Halter Ranch Vineyards
Ranch Cab Paso Robles
2004

Purple and highly extracted, this wine had lots of stuffing when we bought it in the spring, so we put down three bottles to open at six month intervals. It's a Bordeaux blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Syrah that packs lots of blackberry, black current, and spice. This is our first after six months in the cellar, and though the wine has mellowed a bit (not a bad thing), the fruit is still showing well.

Throws a sediment, so you might want to decant it.

Price: Retail price about $21; we paid about $15 and aged it
