2013 Bouchaine Estate Chardonnay Carneros, Napa Valley

“Steely, cooling, fresh-squeezed, elemental.”

2013 Bouchaine Estate Chardonnay Carneros, Napa Valley
A glorious, succulent, luxuriant wine. The Chardonnay derives from a mix of twenty- to thirty-year plots on the Bouchaine estate, and it was vinified and aged in separate lots prior to blending. The result is tropical but not overtly opulent, creamy-textured but not buttery. There is a suggestion of nutmeat and almost-coconut that mingles with yellow melon and green apple and lemon peel—key Chardonnay notes. But it’s not primarily about fruit, and in the end feels shining and elemental, steely, cooling, fresh-squeezed. Delicious.
