This fruit hails from the southern end of the Alexander Valley, 85 percent Zinfandel complemented by Carignan and Petite Sirah. The wine was aged 18 months in a mix of French and American oak.
It’s a rubescent gel, dense and chewy compared to the winery’s Patchwork red blend, which is also Zin-dominant. The fruit is red and meaty, the oak is balanced, and the acidity adds lift, but the alcohol volume is turned way, way up, fatiguing the mind (and palate).
Take it in small sips with the roasted, smoked, and charred.
