2018 Sutro Sauvignon Blanc Alexander Valley

Textural Sauvignon Blanc from the Alexander Valley

2018 Sutro Sauvignon Blanc Alexander Valley

A varietal Sauvignon grown on young vines in gravelly alluvial soils. The fruit was tank fermented, and the wine saw neither oak nor malolactic fermetation. Its color is watery yellow, pale but with green glints. Aromatically it’s tropical and ripe—leaning toward mango and yellow peach—but with a grassy edge. Firm acidity and the lack of oak and malolactic keep the midsection linear and crisp, but the finish feels weightier. Overall, it’s a wine whose flavor is carried on the aromatics, and whose palate is more textural. Try it with seafoods, like slow-roasted salmon dressed in lemon oil, or with pesto or other herb-accented cuisine. It will pair well with fresh and young cheeses, especially of goat’s milk.
