2018 Pedroncelli Zinfandel Rosé Dry Creek Valley

Aromatic, firm-textured rosé

018 Pedroncelli Zinfandel Rosé Dry Creek Valley Sonoma County

Pedroncelli’s Zinfandel rosé is made with estate fruit. The grapes are de-stemmed, pressed, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless tanks. The wine’s color is dark rose gold with orange glints, and its aromas are spicy and woodsy, with a touch of sandalwood and incense. It has good grip — it’s somewhat tannic, in a pleasing way — and the fruit skews dark. Whereas many California pressed rosés, especially of Pinot Noir, read like strawberry and mint, this one reads like black raspberry and oregano.

Charming and affordable, it’s great for heartier picnic fare (sandwiches, salads, barbecue) and also terrific with foods dusted with aromatic spices like cumin, chili, or star anise.
