The Pratt Vine Hill Chardonnay bottling is a mix of clones grown in sandy Goldridge soils. The vineyard is certified sustainable. The grapes were fermented with ambient cultures (including full malolactic) in a 60/40 mix of small stainless steel barrels and new French oak barrels. The wine was filtered prior to bottling under a screwcap.

The closure renders it lightly reductive at first, but this dissipates quickly with a few moments of air, after which it’s redolent of lemon, cream, and crème caramel. The opulence of the aromatics is offset but a juicy palate, and the texture is satiny, mouth filling and expansive but not unctuous. The fruit notes skew toward lemon and its peel, and the wine has substantial weight and length. It’s a rich style, a nod to Montrachet from sunny California.
