Alice Sutro’s rosé is a saignée of Cabernet Sauvignon. In the 2019 vintage, the grapes took their time attaining physiological ripeness while their sugar levels went up and up. So Sutro bled her red fermenter (presumably to water-back), and used the juice to create this charming, watermelon-pink rosé.
It has a quiet fragrance, the impression not floral or fruity but earthy-herbaceous instead. Its texture is ample, carrying flavors of black bramble berries and cherries. It finishes with a crack of acidity.
It’s a great rosé with pizza.
