Scilla is a blend of 50 percent Carignan, from Mokelumne River in Lodi, plus 48 percent Grenache and 2 percent Mourvèdre. The lots fermented with ambient cultures and the blend was raised in neutral barrels. It is a limpid raspberry color, very pretty, with a youthful clear rim. With air it yields flowery red fruits and potpourri, pomegranate and cranberry. The palate continues this, and the tannins are modest. It’s a tart, juicy, refreshing blend that takes a light chill.
