Sosie’s Pinot Noir is sourced from the Spring Hill Vineyard to the west of Petaluma and includes Swan, Calera, and Pommard 5 clones. The fruit is fermented with wild cultures and the wine is handled minimally, with a modest sulfite addition. The color is deep garnet, and the perfume is flowery but with a suggestion of pine; I get raspberry and strawberry and rhubarb but also basil and tarragon and anise hyssop. The flavors continue this theme, a sluice of tart red fruits and a finish that feels mentholated and cooling (but not medicinal). The wine exits in a blaze of red acidity. It’s a refreshing Pinot that pairs well with rich fish, poultry, medium aged cheeses, and gratins.
