Olema is a second label of Amici Cellars, launched to celebrate Sonoma fruit. About two-thirds of this Pinot comes from vineyards in the Russian River Valley with the balance from the Sonoma Coast, and the wine aged 11 months in French oak, about one-third new.
It’s light red-fruited, delivering a splash of raspberry and cherry with pleasant hints of fresh fennel and anise seed. The oak is light-handed, just enough to add a filigree of texture and spice. It feels drinkably fresh, with solid acidity and a juicy finish.
Good by the glass or with light meats, poultry, cheeses, and hearty salads, it’s a well made California Pinot that delivers value for the price.
