2014 Château Les Charmes-Godard Blanc Francs Côtes de Bordeaux

White fruits, stone fruits, almonds, and rocks

2014 Château Les Charmes-Godard Blanc Francs Côtes de Bordeaux
A surprisingly complicated wine that commingles white petals with bitter almond, stone fruit with minerals. It’s a blend of Sémillon, Sauvignon Gris, and Sauvignon Blanc grown in Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, northeast of St-Émilion. There is a whiff of lily and daffodil, the oil of lime skin, a suggestion of wet rocks. The texture is big and peachy, but with a prickly lime juice and green almond mid-palate. The finish—bear with me—feels grapefruity, but then an encore of juicy white peaches washes through. Serious and stony, but jocular, too.
