A sluice of garnet limned with tawny glints, shimmery but tightly wound. It needs a lavish swirl in the decanter. With this air it begins to flower open, but the wood remains: cherries and wood, violets and wood, blue flowers, maybe tulips, and wood. The tannins are forward and drying, heightened by heady alcohol.
It is a riserva, a wine with substantial oak aging, but right now feels too stiff, like a mahogany fence built around a brilliant ruby orchard. Lay it down awhile.
