This varietal Verdicchio was grown in the communes of Montecarotto and Serra de’ Conti, in Italy’s central Marche region. The body is an elegant pallid gold, and its perfume is surprising and exquisite, like peaches, like peach flowers, like pear flowers at dusk. The cut is attenuated, lean and sharp and sparkly and pleasantly minerally, with a snappy wet limestone finish. But in a recapitulation of the fragrance, the fruit feels delicate and pliant, suggesting peaches, not citrus, despite the fresh acidity.
Truly lovely, and a screaming deal.
