Meg Houston Maker Joins Circle of Wine Writers

I’m delighted to announce I’ve been accepted into the Circle of Wine Writers.

This organization, founded in the U.K. in 1960, now counts 259 international members, including 13 colleagues in the U.S. The Circle aims to elevate discourse about wine while providing its members a platform for support and collaboration. Twenty-nine members are Masters of Wine. All are accomplished wine journalists and educators.

As a writer, it’s always a privilege to be read, but it is a double privilege to be read by peers and found worthy. I’m thrilled to have been chosen for membership, and offer my thanks to Becky Sue Epstein and Deborah Parker Wong, who sponsored my candidacy, and to the Circle’s membership and leadership committees for welcoming me.

I hope to be able to make a meaningful contribution to the Circle, one that honors both its mission and the esteem with which I regard the organization and my fellow members.

The best work lies ahead.

  1. Congratulations Meg. Your support, encouragement and downright practicality made a huge difference to me when I was starting out last year. Thank you. Wishing you all the best, David.

Congratulations, Meg, on your milestone! As local friends, we know how hard you’ve worked over the years to learn, sample, explore, and write about the fascinating world of wines and winemaking. This honor is well-deserved!

Congratulations, Meg! This is so well-deserved! As someone who is just starting out freelancing about wine, and getting ready to launch my own site, you are THE writer I have quietly admired and looked up to from afar. To me, you’re the gold standard. The Circle of Wine Writers is lucky to have you!
