Before Its Time

Martin Ranch
Thérèse Vineyards Petite Sirah
2005

We opened this bottle two nights ago and were blown over by its aggressive tannins and forward style. We gave it some time in the glass to let it open up, but even after an hour or so, it still felt immature and unintegrated. We poured it into a decanter, let it sit for two days, and tried it again tonight. The wine is bright purple and foamy when swirled in the glass. There's a lot going on, with dark fruit and smoke and earth. But it's not music—yet. It tastes like an orchestra tuning up.

It has so much to offer, it's a shame we opened it so soon.

Price: $22
