2011 Esporão Quinta dos Murças Vinhas Velhas Reserva Douro DOC

“Dried herbs and dusty plum...”

2011 Esporão Quinta dos Murças Vinhas Velhas Reserva Douro

Vinhas velhas means old vines, pisa a pé means foot-treading, so it’s not hard to guess this is a wine made in the old style. A blend of traditional varieties Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Amarela, Tinta Barroca, and Sousão, it’s a deep purple color with aromas of dusty dried herbs (lavender, thyme) plus cassis and black plum. The body is supple, not too grippy but deeply extracted, and its astringency carries ample black currant fruit. The finish is powdery like graphite, very gritty and cool.
