I recently appeared on the podcast Sip Sip Hooray! to share my thoughts about wine writing’s past, present, and future.
The conversation with co-hosts Mary Babbitt and Mary Orlin covered a lot of ground, ranging from my own background and inspirations to the history of wine writing itself. We talked about the many provocations and shortcomings of using words to describe wine, and how the current fashion for descriptive tasting notes can actually lead to confusion versus clarity. I also offered some ideas about fresh approaches, and shared my own evolving strategies.
