Tegernseerhof’s rosé is a varietal Zweigelt, grown in loess soils of the family’s Mittelbach vineyard, in Kremstal. Farming is sustainable, and the fruit is hand harvested and treated to a short, one-hour maceration. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel. All of the estate’s Zweigelt goes into this rosé; they do not use any for red wine production.
The color is pink with a faint bluish cast, and the wine is fragrant of strawberry, apricot, cut grass, and that fresh-air smell of laundry on the line. It smells breezy and cool. The palate it delivers tart berry and stone fruits, and despite the light texture and crackly acidity it has a long finish. It’s a good aperitif wine or a partner for fresh and young cheeses, picnic foods, fish and shellfish.
