2013 Rhous White Blend Skipper Crete

A blend of two native grapes of Crete

2013 Rhous Skipper PGI Crete

This Rhous Winery white mingles 70 percent Vidiano and 30 Plyto, two white grapes native to Crete. Fruit was fermented in a mix of stainless steel and new French barrels, and the blend was aged for five months with bâtonnage prior to release. It’s pale straw yellow with a fragrance of wet stone and caramelized apricots, but the body is light-textured, mostly about watery yellow citrus, especially the pith and peel. It also offers pleasant pine, white pepper, and green tea notes which add dimension.

Overall a light-hearted, piquant white worth exploring. Pair it with fresh goat cheese, especially flavored with tarragon and cracked black pepper; light-fleshed fish; poached chicken; sushi and sashimi.
