2018 Eidos de Padriñán Albariño Rías Baixas

Citrusy, salty Albariño

2018 Eidos de Padriñán Albariño Rías Baixas

This Albariño is grown on fifty-year-old vines, some of which are, miraculously, own-rooted. The fruit was hand-picked, sorted, de-stemmed, pressed, and fermented cold with ambient yeasts; the wine rested on lees until a March bottling. It’s fruit-driven but with a briny edge. Its aromas suggest dried apricots, pineapple, and candied lemon peel, while the palate adds mango and citrus. But the finish is distinctly saline — not mineral, just evocative of ocean breezes, the tang of salt air. It’s a perfect wine for seafood (obviously).
