2016 Newton Unfiltered Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Elegant, well-priced Napa Cab

2016 Newton Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
Newton sources fruit for this bottling from vineyards in three great Napa districts: Spring Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Yountville. Eighty-five percent of the wine is Cabernet Sauvignon, with Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc blended-in for balance. It aged for 14 months in French oak, only a small fraction of which was new.

The wine is a radiant, deep ruby color and delivers a fragrance of juniper, black cherry, cassis, and cedar. Texturally it feels sueded, fine-grained, and lit by a candle of cherry acidity. The flavors mingle woodsy juniper and cassis-cherrywood, and the oak is well integrated, restrained. Overall a good value for an elegant Napa Cab that can readily age ten years.
