2016 Schlumberger Pinot Noir Les Princes Abbés Alsace

Balanced, crystalline Alsatian Pinot Noir

2016 Schlumberger Pinot Noir Les Princes Abbés Alsace AOP

All Schlumberger wines are estate-grown on their 140 hectares, half of which constitute Grand Cru vineyards. Fruit for their Princes Abbés Pinot Noir is planted in their Bollenberg and Saering parcels (not Grand Cru) in lime and marl-limestone soils. The grapes were vinified and raised for ten months in traditional tun wood vessels, which have a capacity of about 1,000 liters.

The wine is a limpid light raspberry color and emits a heady perfume of rose petals, rose hips, lavender, potpourri, and sandalwood. The texture crystalline, a wash of bright red fruit with accents of dried berries and flowers, all carried on supple tannins. Extremely elegant, almost ethereal, this is a Pinot Noir for those who seek a fine balance between ripeness and restraint.

This balanced pinot noir is magical, and it tastes fantastic. I remember when my best mate bought me a drink of this for the first time. It was a great experience for me, and I still remember it to this day.
