2014 Stony Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain Napa Valley

Elegant, satiny, and ready to drink now

2014 Stony Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain Napa Valley

Stony Hill might be better known for its Riesling and Chardonnay, but their 2014 Cabernet is a succulent, silky offering. It was grown on young vines on a remote hillside in Napa’s Spring Mountain district, and its perfume of cassis and red currants is fey and flowery but sports a vein of earth. The wine’s tannins are modest, while its satiny robe carries a complicated mélange of fruits and savoriness. Elegant and friendly, it’s ready to drink now.

Satiny and ready to drink now are not words I expected to see in a Stony Hill review. Never had their Cabernet, but I would have expected something more structured and in need of extended aging.
