2010 Ridge Zinfandel Lytton Estate Dry Creek Valley

Beginning to show hints of bottle age

2010 Ridge Zinfandel Lytton Estate Dry Creek Valley

We purchased a few bottles of this wine several years ago, anticipating a short drinking window. The color is deep red garnet color with a flame-tipped rim, but the robe is nearly opaque. Aromatically it reads as slightly tawny, but those hints of age are obscured by its alcohol. The palate suggests raisin and tea, a wash of sweet red berries with a mid-palate hit of black currant. The finish is drying and black-fruited, snappy, like munching on blackberries with their seeds.

A wine of such concentration needs rich and savory foods: mushrooms, grilled meats, aged cheeses.

Early days yet. Although I must admit that the Lytton Estate wines (Zin and PS) have not impressed me.

    1. I think they used to be more elegant. Maybe it was just vintage, but we preferred them to some of the other Ridge estate bottlings. To be honest, I find Petite Sirah hard to like, although we have a few of the Lyttons and are holding them.
