2014 Dierberg Chardonnay Drum Canyon Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills

Serious and deep, with a finishing mineral aspect

2014 Dierberg Chardonnay Drum Canyon Vineyard Sta. Rita Hills

Ripe and restrained but also somehow deep. The robe is light yellow but has an evocative, dark yellow fragrance: herbs and preserved lemons, fresh air, sunshine in a dark room. The body is silky and serious, with medium acidity and (as with the Estate bottling) a pineapple aspect. But the mid palate and finish are herbaceous and minerally, and the wine departs in a freshet. Not a wine for those who want lots of fruit and cream (hooray).
