2014 Morgan Winery Red Blend Côtes du Crow’s Monterey

A blend of 53 percent Grenache and 47 percent Syrah, grown in sandy, shaly loam in the Arroyo Seco and San Lucas appellations of Monterey County. The fruit was fermented in open-top tanks, and the wine was transferred to French oak, 12 percent new, where it rested for ten months. The wine

It’s peppery and floral and youthful, with abundant rare meat, sweet pink flowers, and a kick of spice. The wine has a forthrightness that speaks to the its youthfulness and callow fruit, like fresh cherries and red raspberries. Tightly wound, it might settle a bit with bottle age, but right now it’s just rambunctious, juicy fun.
