The First of the Whites

Ferrari-Carano
Fumé Blanc (Sauvignon Blanc)
2007

On this late March afternoon, it's sunny and 43º outside, sunny and 72º inside. As an aperitif, we open a Fumé Blanc. It's a breath of spring. Floral and peachy, with a beautiful mid-palate that reminds me of a ripe Bosc pear, plus enough acid to keep it balanced. It's wonderful, and a harbinger of things to come. Did I hear a robin?

Price: $16 (sale; regular price about $19)
