Flinty and Austere

Sterling Vineyards
Napa County Sauvignon Blanc
2006

Clean, dry, and serious, this Sauvignon Blanc from the reputable Sterling winery strikes us as intriguing if a bit austere. The nose is grassy and sharp, and the herbaceousness carries through the mid-palate and finish. There isn't much fruit, but the wine does have a flinty, mineral complexity that keeps it interesting. Holds its own against fresh tomato and corn, which is saying a lot.

Price: $12 (sale; regular price $16)
